Camping


Camping at the Lorain/Stonycreek Hiking Trails is for hikers wanting to short-term camp in our trails and enjoy nature for an evening or two.   We ask that you register with the form below and provide details of what campsite you will be at, how many in your party and the length of stay. 


 We do have wood piles at the camping areas and there is lots of downed lumber to use for fires in the surrounding area if supplies get low.


Respect the regulations where you’re camping. Be sure to check posted signage or chat with the camp host. If you have any questions, please contact us.

PRIMITIVE CAMPING GUIDLINES

  • Camping registration is required but there is no fee.
  • We have two campsites available however you are permitted to camp anywhere off the trail as long at its at least 200 feet away from the trail.
  • Maximum stay is 2 night unless you have spoke with us and we have authorized a longer stay.   We are not set up to support long-term camping.
  • Campfires are permitted just properly extinguish the fire prior to leaving the site. Primitive stone fire rings must be scattered.
  • Dispose of trash properly in provided bins. Take it with you where required to pack it out or when there is no more space in the provided bins.
  • Camping gear must be backpackable (e.g. hammock or lightweight tent).  No tables, pop-up canopies, or large family tents are permitted. 
  • Camping must be a minimum of 100 feet from any stream or open water source.
  • All human waste must be buried at a minimum of 6 inches.
  • No group camping without prior approval from LSHT.
  • Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

CLIMATE

TEMPERATURES

The warm season lasts for about four months, from May 25 to September 16, with an average daily high temperature above 72°F. The hottest day of the year is July 20, with an average high of 82°F and low of 64°F.


The cold season lasts for about three months, from December 2 to March 5, with an average daily high temperature below 44°F. The coldest day of the year is January 29, with an average low of 21°F and high of 35°F.
